Genie manufactures a variety of remote controls compatible with the Intellicode system that will operate your opener once you program the remote to communicate with the opener motor. Programming your Genie Intellicode model H6000A garage door remote becomes necessary when adding a second remote, replacing a lost remote, changing remotes for new tenants or after retaining ownership of the home from the previous owners.

Look above your Genie garage door opener for the two screws holding the light bulb cover to the front of the motor. Remove the screws and lower the cover.

Up to seven remote-operated devices can be programmed into one of the Genie legacy Intellicode garage door openers. That includes a total of seven Intellicode remotes or six Intellicode remotes plus an Intellicode wireless keypad. Genie® Intellicode® type garage door opener. Press the button on your remote within 30 seconds of releasing the learn button. The red LED beneath the learn button will stop flashing and remain lit. Press the remote control button once again to complete the programming and extinguish the red LED.

Raise the light bulb cover on the Genie opener motor. Secure the cover with the two screws you removed.

Tips

  • Follow the same steps to program each button on a multiple button remote control.
  • Erase the opener memory by pressing the learn button for 10 seconds or until the red LED indicator beneath the learn button no long burns if programming a remote for new tenants or new home ownership. Follow the same programming steps once you erase the opener’s memory.

Program

The Genie GICT390 is a programmable transmitter designed to operate the company's automatic garage door openers. Small enough to fit on your key ring, it is available in one- and three-button versions for controlling one to three separate Genie Intellicode-capable openers manufactured in 1997 or later. Programming the GICT390 to your device can be done in moments, provided you are standing within range of the unit (150 feet or less).

Step 1

Programming A Genie Garage Door Opener Remote

Locate and press the 'Learn Code' button next to the radio signal indicator on the power head receiver of the door opener. The indicator will begin blinking twice per second.

Step 2

Program Genie Intellicode Remote To Liftmaster

Press the button on the GICT390 transmitter once within thirty seconds (or press any one of the buttons, for the three-button model). The radio signal indicator will stay solidly lit.

Press the same button again, also within thirty seconds. The radio signal indicator will go out and the transmitter is programmed to the door opener. If more than thirty seconds passes, or if you press a different button, the indicator will blink rapidly and the process will be halted. Repeat the process if this occurs.
